Thinking of Christchurch...

Our thoughts are with the people of Christchurch as they assess the damage done by Saturday's earthquake.
The after shocks that still continue must be scary, and the rebuilding will take a while, but we are also very pleased to see such community spirit in Christchurch! What an amazing bunch of people! Good on you Christchurch!

Funky Fashion Show

Finally we made it to the annual Nelson Eco-Fest and entered our costumes into the Funky Fashion Show. CTS had 7 entries (thanks to all those wonderful children and their parents who came along). The models did a fab job showing off their creations, and strutting their stuff on the catwalk at Trafalger Centre. You should be proud of yourselves and your costumes. Great job rooms 9 and 10!

Clubs 2010

Clubs are well under way at CTS. There is a huge range of activities taking place every Friday - cooking, patchworking, cross-stitch, geocaching, making model boats, computer programming, Nelson History, Nelson walks, Orienteering, tapdancing......
Amazing that there is so much on offer.
Make sure you post a comment below and let us know how your club is going.
2 weeks down and 4 to go, so make the most of it!!

Congratulations to the All Whites

The All Whites are coming home to NZ as heros.
Their perseverance and determination was outstanding, and we can all be proud of their achievements, even though they narrowly missed out on getting into the 2nd round.
What are you doing that shows the same amount of perseverance and determination? Write a reply in the comments section below.

Inquiry by Hamish

In our inquiry groups we are designing a costume for a wearable arts show, and also for the production. We're designing a kind of robot. The things we are going to make it with have to be recycled media except for the adhesives. by Hamish

cross country by Emma

Cross country is coming up and we've done a lot of training and we're all excited about it. 5-7yr olds are doing 1 lap, 8-9yrs are doing 2 laps, 10-11yrs are doing 3 laps. I think I'll so well. By Emma.

CSI in Room 9!

Mrs McCormack arrived at school on Friday morning to find a crime scene awaiting her in room 9. Beloved Pink Panther had come to a timely end (although we are hoping that some miracle surgery will have him gracing the room 9 couch one more).
Who dunnit?
Please help us find the culprit of this terrible crime. Apparently there will be clues on the school website....

Production by Henry

The production is coming up soon. The easy bit is probably practicing and the hard bit is standing up and doing it in front of people. It's called A Big Green Adventure. It's about elders that go through a city to see if it's better than wilderness. The 2 main characters are Snowy and Chip. Then, as they go through they meet the good and bad things about a city.

Cross Country by Nicola

Cross Country is coming up soon and we're training on the field, and we're running round the field for 10 minutes. We do a little bit at a time and build up on going further each time. The hard part is running. The easy part is enjoying it. It is a lot of hard work but once you are used to running it's easy to just run and enjoy it.

Geometry

We are studying GEOMETRY for Maths this term. We have been discussing polygons, and finding out what regular and irregular polygons are. Polygons are shapes with many sides. We took the school cameras around the school grounds and took photos of geometric shapes, and also made shapes with bodies! That took a lot of skill, and the body shapes were definately irregular polygons!!! We are going to use our photos to make books for the juniors about shapes on the computers.

Funky Fashion Creations!

We were given a challenge to create an item of clothing out of 5 sheets of newspaper and 2 metres of sellotape. We were allowed to use scissors but nothing else. Check out our designs!!

Health/First Aid by Troy

On Wednesday we learnt about Health. We learned how to put people in the recovery position and I won a free pen because I found 20 things and that was the most. We used pretend cell phones. One person was a caller the other person was a medic and the other person was the unconscious person. Then we got a bottle and had to smash a wine cork out of it, and mark where you think their tummy button was and roll upwards with your fist to stop them choking. It was fun.

Tea by the Sea by Nina

Last Friday our school had a school gala to raise money for our school. There was a water slide and a games tent, lots of fizzy and yummy things to eat. I played games and found a $5 note on the ground. Me and my friends hung around the games tent and I heard the guy talking on the microphone and went and asked him if I could talk in it but he said someone else froze. He said I could do it but he told me to come back in 5mins, but I didn't get to talk because they were packing up. Our school raised $10,000 and we are going to build a new reading deck outside the library which is really exciting.

Swimming Sports by Apitoni

Last week all seniors had swimming sports. Mr Marshall were announcing which groups go up first. I did freestyle, back stroke and breast stroke. I came 3rd in the freestyle and last in the others. I was yelling out GO TOWNERS during the relay races.

Rabbit Island by Sarah

On Thursday the whole school of Clifton Terrace went to Rabbit Island. We went on a bus to Rabbit Island and it was a very long boring ride but eventually we got there. When we arrived we went to an opening in the middle and all had morning tea. After morning tea we went swimming in the sea and then we went to do sand castles. Me and my little friend did a sand castle each but then we were disturbed by dive bombing wasps so we went away to a new spot. After that we went for a walk beside the sea, on the sand and in the sea. When we were walking some people found crabs. A person found a massive crab! There were lots of shells that people collected as well. Then we all had lunch and then we went out to play sport in the afternoon. I played t ball and then I went into the bushes and played, and then went for a sack race. I fell over and tripped over my feet. I almost got to the end but I fell over. Then we all lined up to get to the bus and drove another long boring drive back to school.
